August 31, 2009 PTSA Updates

Welcome from the Executive Board of Nelsen Middle School PTSA!

We would like to welcome everyone to Nelsen Middle School!  The transition to middle school should be as smooth as possible and we can help.  We are also there to help as "liaisons", between the parents and the staff, but our primary mission is to be there for the kids!

The best way for us to communicate with the Nelsen families is by e-mail.  An informal monthly e-mail update is sent to anyone who signs up for it.  If you are not already receiving updates, and would like to join our e-mail list, please e-mail sidekik@msn.com;  Subject:  Sign up for Nelsen E-Mail.  Feel free to pass this on to other Nelsen parents!

The e-mails do not replace regular U.S. mail, or written material sent through the kids.  The updates merely serve as either an additional notice, or a precursor of things to come, and helps rally parents and promote camaraderie.  Please remember to ask for hand-outs from school, and read them!

If you have any questions whatsoever, don't hesitate to e-mail us at fourgarls@comcast.com.  All parents and guardians are invited to attend any of the monthly PTSA meetings, on Tuesdays at 7:00pm (dates to be announced in future e-mails).  We discuss valuable information of upcoming events, and you can be part of what will be happening through the Nelsen school year.  The principal or vice-principals usually come, sharing school happenings at the meeting.

We're looking forward to a fantastic school year!  Thank you!

Staff Breakfast.

PTSA will be putting together a breakfast for the staff on the SECOND day of school (Thursday, September 3rd).  There are at least 75 staff members.  We would like to provide a nice breakfast for them, to let them know we appreciate what they will be doing for our kids.  It would also GIVE YOU AN EXCUSE TO COME TO SCHOOL!  You can tell your kid(s) you HAVE to drop something off in the office.  If you can bring pastries, muffins (homemade or purchased), cookies, fruit, orange juice, or any other breakfast items, please e-mail Geri Garl at fourgarls@comcast.net directly.

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to Nelsen Middle School for the 2009-10 school year!  We are very excited about a change that is happening this year throughout the Renton School District.  The first day of school, September 2, 2009, will be a day set aside only for our incoming sixth graders!  This day will be used to really orient and insure the success of our new students.  Also, each sixth grader will be assigned an eighth grade mentor, who will meet with them throughout the year.  Seventh and eighth graders, who are not mentors, are to stay home that day, and will attend their first day of school on Thursday, September 3, 2009

Why JOIN Nelsen’s PTSA

*  PTSA provides a venue for parents to contribute to students’ success.

*  PTSA brings resources to parents to help children in the education process.

*  Your local PTSA is the key communication link between parents, Teachers, school administrators and the community.

…Here is one more major reason!

Major corporations and special interest groups always have lobbyists to protect their interests.

But who protects the interest of the children of this nation?  THE PTA

The PTA is the largest child advocacy group in the U.S., which lobbies and protects the interest of our children, our future.  It starts with each one of us – one membership adds up to thousands of members, and thousands of voices, all for the kids.

So don’t forget to join the Nelsen PTSA!  Thank you!
